Description

Create perfectly crisp, golden-brown homemade waffle cones with this easy recipe! Ideal for holding your favorite ice cream, these cones are far superior to store-bought versions and fill your kitchen with a delightful, sweet aroma.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until combined. Add the milk and vanilla extract, and whisk until smooth.

  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and a smooth batter forms. Do not overmix.

  3. Preheat Cooker: Preheat your waffle cone maker or a non-stick skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, lightly grease it.

  4. Cook: Pour 2-3 tablespoons of batter onto the hot surface. If using a cone maker, close the lid and cook for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown. If using a skillet, cook for 2-3 minutes per side.

  5. Shape: Working quickly while the waffle is still hot and pliable, roll it around a cone mold or shape it with heat-resistant gloves.

  6. Cool: Place the shaped cone on a wire rack to cool completely and become crisp.

Notes

Work Quickly: The key to shaping is speed! Have your mold and gloves ready before you start cooking, as the waffles become brittle as they cool.

Don’t Overmix: Mix the batter until just combined to avoid tough cones.

Storage: Keep completely cooled cones in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week to maintain crispness.

Variations: Add 2 tbsp of cocoa powder for chocolate cones, or 1 tsp of cinnamon or almond extract for different flavors.

No Specialty Maker? A non-stick skillet works perfectly well; just flip the disc like a pancake.
