Description

A spicy, cheesy, and completely vegan artisan bread with jalapeños and dairy-free cheese. Perfectly crusty on the outside and fluffy inside, this loaf is flavorful, plant-based, and perfect for sandwiches, soups, or snacking.


Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 fresh jalapeños, seeded & chopped
  • 1 cup shredded vegan cheese


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, activate the yeast by mixing it with warm water; let sit 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1–2 hours, until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough, then knead in jalapeños and vegan cheese.
  7. Shape into a loaf, place on a baking sheet, and cover. Let rise 30–45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  9. Bake 30–40 minutes, until golden brown.
  10. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Roast jalapeños for smoky flavor.

Add garlic powder, cumin, or smoked paprika for extra depth.

For gluten-free bread, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.

Brush with olive oil before baking for a shiny crust.

Cool completely before slicing to avoid a gummy interior.
