Description

A cozy, no-mix apple dump cake with a buttery cinnamon-sugar “snickerdoodle” crust and bubbling spiced apples; ridiculously easy, totally crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

Apple layer

  • 2 cans (21 oz each) apple pie filling

Cake & butter

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

Snickerdoodle topping

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

Optional add-ins (sprinkle over apples): ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, ¼ cup caramel sauce, pinch nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prep: Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Apples: Spread apple pie filling evenly in the dish (add optional nuts/caramel if using).
  3. Cake mix: Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apples; do not stir.
  4. Butter: Drizzle melted butter evenly over the entire surface, trying to moisten as much mix as possible.
  5. Cinnamon-sugar: Stir sugar and cinnamon together; sprinkle evenly over the top for the snickerdoodle crust.
  6. Bake: 40–50 minutes, until the top is golden and the edges are bubbly.
  7. Cool & serve: Rest 10–15 minutes to set. Serve warm (great with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream).

Notes

For extra even browning, lightly press the dry mix into the apples before adding butter.

If dry spots remain near the end, spoon a little melted butter or warm milk over those areas and bake 5 more minutes.

Variations: swap apples for peach, cherry, or blueberry filling; add ½ cup oats for a crumble vibe.

Storage: cover and refrigerate up to 3 days; rewarm at 325°F until heated through.
